Governance

The Elegor Society

The Elegor Society is the curatorial body responsible for the official Elegor canon, the badge system, and the Elegor Compendium. It is constituted as an Italian Associazione Culturale, currently in formation.

What the Society does

The Society's primary role is curatorial. It reviews proposals for new canonical elements, administers the badge system, appoints the Editorial Council, and makes decisions about the long-term direction of the project. The Society holds the canon as steward, not as owner.

Practically, the Society currently operates through its founding members. As the project grows and the formal legal entity is constituted, governance will expand to include community representatives, appointed curators, and the Editorial Council as defined roles.

Who runs it

Elegor was created by Davide Ravasi and Riccardo Ravasi, two brothers who began building the world as a private project. They are the founding members of the Elegor Society and the original creators to whom the CC BY 4.0 attribution applies.

Until the Society is formally constituted as a legal entity, Davide and Riccardo Ravasi make all official decisions (canon reviews, badge approvals, Compendium publication, and governance) under the Society's name.

Formation timeline

The Elegor Society is targeted for formal legal constitution in Italy during Phase 1 or Phase 2 of the public rollout. The constitution of the Society coincides with the launch of the community features (user registration, badge submissions, and the Canon Ledger), which require a formal legal and governance structure.

The Society's founding documents, membership structure, and governance rules will be published on this page when the constitution process is complete.

The Editorial Council

The Editorial Council is the Society's review body. Council members are appointed by the Society's founders and assigned to thematic groups (species, history, geography, spellcraft, institutions, and others). A submission for badge review is routed to the relevant group, whose members evaluate it against the published criteria for the requested badge level.

Council membership is by invitation. As the community grows and contributors demonstrate sustained engagement with the canon, the pool of eligible council members will grow with it.

Creative works belong to their creators

The Society holds no ownership over creative works built on Elegor. Derivative works (stories, games, illustrations, software, music) belong entirely to their creators. The Society's role is to maintain the integrity of the official canon and the credibility of the badge system, not to govern what happens in the broader community of creators using the world.

Attribution is required under CC BY 4.0, but this is a condition of the license, not a gatekeeping mechanism. Any work that credits the original creators appropriately is using Elegor in full compliance with the terms.

Contact

For questions about the canon, badge submissions, licensing edge cases, or the Society's governance, reach out directly to Davide Ravasi, the primary point of contact for all official Elegor matters. Contact details for the Society's formal channels will be published here once the legal entity is constituted.
